I often wonder if my obsession with bright blue water and tropical beaches comes from the fact that as a child, I never saw anything like it.
My family went to the beach a lot when I was growing up–but always to the Atlantic coast, normally off of North Carolina or Florida. The beaches were (and still are) wonderful for their own form of beauty and for swimming in the strong waves, but I always wanted to go to a beach that looked like a postcard from a tropical paradise.
I’ve seen several of them now, but Koh Tao was incredibly impressive. The entire time that we were on the island, I just wanted to keep staring at it, admiring it, and photographing it–though visiting beaches is definitely not the only thing to do on Koh Tao!
I doubt this will be our last trip to Koh Tao–it definitely won’t be our last trip to the beaches of Thailand. Next time, we hope to come back during the high season (or at least shoulder season) and check out the famed Andaman coast.
For now, I’ll keep looking back at all of our beautiful, postcard-esque photos of a landscape that once seemed so far away.
